Depicted is Russian Guard of Peter the 1st at the time of the Great Northern War 1700-1721.
“The Great Northern War was a war fought in Northern, Central and Eastern Europe between 1700 and 1721 for supremacy in the Baltic Sea region.
In March 1700, a three-way alliance consisting of the Russian Tsarist Empire and the two personal unions of Saxony-Poland and Denmark-Norway attacked the Swedish Empire, which was ruled by the eighteen-year-old King Charles XII. Despite the unfavorable starting position, the Swedish king initially remained victorious and succeeded in having Denmark-Norway (1700) and Saxony-Poland (1706) withdraw from the war. When he set out to defeat Russia in a final campaign from 1708, the Swedes suffered a devastating defeat at the Battle of Poltava in July 1709, which marked the turning point of the war.” (wiki)
